Golf: There are a number of golf courses  less than one hours drive from Hilltop Bed & breakfast.

Horseriding: Mullingar Equestrian Centre and Ladestown Riding and Trekking Stables are about five miles from Hilltop B&B.

Angling: The Lake County is famous for its rivers and lakes, from the river Shannon and Lough Ree in Athlone to the Mullingar Lakes of Ennel, Owel and Derravaragh and the Royal Canal and River Inny. A great choice of fishing waters for both Coarse and Trout fishing.

Belvedere House & Gardens

Belvedere House and Gardens is well worth a visit. This is an 18th century Hunting and Fishing Lodge designed by renowned Architect Richard Castle for Robert Rochfort, later the 1st. Earl  of Belvedere.

Several follies adorn the landscape including Irelands Largest folly The Jealous Wall.The estate comprises of 160 acres of parkland with 5kms of maintained woodland walks.There are lots of interesting stories about Belvedere and its former owners.

Westmeath enjoys a rich history and varied heritage being associated with the legend of the Children of Lir  and having fine historic sites such as ancient Fore Abbey and the Hill of Uisneagh. The county has connections with some of Ireland’s best known writers, James Joyce, Oliver Goldsmith and Jonathan Swift.
